The Village’s current Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan was adopted in 2015. The plan sought to update and condense prior planning efforts into a single, actionable document. This plan continues to be the reference document for pedestrian and bicycle facilities in the village, but based on its age, updates to internal practices, priorities and staffing, and trends within the profession, has been identified to be in need of an update.
The Parks and Public Spaces Committee will be the primary group through which the effort will be facilitated before coming back to the Public Works Committee and Village Board for consideration. A “Working Group” consisting of representatives from other stakeholders, including but not limited to the Elder Services Advisory Board, School District, MCTS and interested at-large community members, is also projected to be formed for specific input and review. Inclusive of the three public open house style meetings, the project is expected to take approximately 10 months.
A project overview took place on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at the Parks and Public Space Committee's regular monthly meeting. The first public engagement meeting has tentatively been scheduled for April 4, 2024 with additional details to be forthcoming. Corresponding engagement for the Village's Community Outdoor Recreation Plan update and Atwater Park Concept Plan will be facilitated within that same meeting.
Please contact the Village's Planning & Development Director, Bart Griepentrog, AICP to express your interest in the project and join the mailing list for future opportunities for engagement.
