Planning & Development Department
The mission of the Planning & Development Department is to promote the maintenance of property values and the quality of the physical environment throughout the Village through the administration of zoning, building and related codes, land use planning and the provision of technical assistance to elected and appointed boards.
The Planning & Development Department oversees the following functions within the Village:
Building Inspections & Code Enforcement
Building Inspections & Code Enforcement services are a valuable component to promoting growth and protecting the value or homes, commercial buildings and infrastructure. These services include:
- Building, Trade and Other Permits
- Code Enforcement and Compliance
- Commercial Inspections and Plan Reviews
Community Development
Community Development is an essential function of the Village that promotes economic growth and improves the overall quality of life for the community. It often focuses on individual projects or particular points of interest, including redevelopment and specialized planning. The benefits of community development, include increased employment and housing options, and improved infrastructure. Community Development services include:
- Business Loan Program
- Facade Improvement Program Grants
- Neighborhood Improvement Loan Program
- Tax Incremental Financing

- Metropolitan Milwaukee Fair Housing Council
- Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA)
Planning & Zoning
The goal of planning is to maximize the health, safety, and economic well-being for all residents. This involves thinking about how we can move around our community, the businesses and attractions in our community, where we want to live, and opportunities for recreation. Most of all, planning helps create communities of lasting value. Planning services include:
- Architectural and Site Review
- Business Occupancy
- Comprehensive Planning
- Sign Plan Approvals
- Zoning Code and Land Use Administration
The Planning & Development Department also provides staff support for the Plan Commission, Community Development Authority, Design Review Board and Board of Appeals.
