Removals and Stumping

Village forestry staff performs and annual hazard tree inspection. Trees impacted by disease or defect are identified for removal as are those which may have suffered irrecoverable damage from a storm or vehicle. An average of 100 trees are identified each year for removal and replacement. This number will increase with Emerald Ash Borer damage.

Trees are generally removed by Shorewood forestry staff early each year (January - April). The Village also preemptively removes ash trees in conjunction with planned major infrastructure projects (more information). These trees are removed by a contractor as one of the very first phases of the construction project.

Stumps are generally removed by Village staff in July and August. Upon removal of the stump, the area is back-filled with topsoil and seeded.
