There are approximately 60 miles of public sidewalk pavement within the Village of Shorewood. Historically, the Department of Public Works has administered a sidewalk replacement program in defined areas of the Village on a rotating cycle.
In 2023, the Village Board determined that the cost of failed public sidewalk would no longer be assessed to the abutting property owner. Policy 42 - Concrete Replacement Criteria establishes criteria related to concrete replacement to mitigate trip hazards on public sidewalks.
The Department of Public Works is drafting a revised implementation program for Village Board review and approval. In the meantime, residents or property owners with concerns about sidewalk condition may contact the DPW at 414-847-2650.
