Safe Streets and Roads For All

Action Plans

Working with the Milwaukee County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) and its consultants, the Village of Shorewood is participating in this Complete Communities planning effort to assess the safety conditions of its roadways and develop both county-wide and local area action plans to address the safety of all users on its streets.  Phase 1 identified areas of concern through a Transportation Safety Assessment Report that was published in February 2024.  Following the assessment, a county-wide Comprehensive Safety Action Plan was published in December 2024. Upon adoption of the county-wide action plan, efforts commenced to develop a Municipal Safety Action Plan that was presented to the Village Board on January 21, 2026.

Demonstration Activities

In conjunction with MCDOT's Complete Communities planning efforts, the Village of Shorewood also participated in a second federal Safe Streets and Roads For All grant that funded temporary traffic calming demonstration activities. This grant tested the implementation of neighborhood traffic circles, curb extensions and a speed table in the local context of our roadways. Installation of these "quick-build" strategies took place in spring 2025.  A report on the success of the installations, including both quantitative speed analysis and qualitative perceptions of the activities was presented to the Village Board on September 3, 2025.
