[ARCHIVED] Shorewood Waters Project Storm Drain Art Contest Winners Announced

stormdrainwinners_newsflash

Congratulations to these artists for their creativity and dedication in helping raise awareness about the importance of protecting our waterways. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported this inspiring initiative!

Why the Contest Matters: Many people don't realize where the water, trash, and debris that flow into storm drains end up. In most areas, this polluted mix flows directly into the Milwaukee River or Lake Michigan. However, if you live in a combined sewer area, the flow heads to the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) treatment plant.

Did you know that stormwater is the #1 source of pollution in Milwaukee's rivers and Lake Michigan? Stormwater collects chemicals, litter, and waste – pollutants that significantly impact our water quality.

What You Can Do: Keeping our waters clean starts with keeping our land clean! Simple steps like properly disposing of litter, avoiding chemical runoff, and picking up after pets can make a huge difference in reducing pollution. Dirt is natural and safe, but it's the chemicals, trash, and pet waste that are harmful to our waterways.

Together, we can protect the environment and wildlife and ensure a healthier, cleaner future for our rivers and lakes.
