[ARCHIVED] Village to Install Demonstration Traffic Calming Infrastructure

ShorewoodTrafficCalming_newsflash

Through these temporary installations, the Village hopes to understand how to best locate and design traffic calming measures within our local context and operational needs, and learn of possible unanticipated outcomes.

Based on previously identified areas within the Village’s Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan and areas of concern noted in our Traffic and Parking Analysis from 2020, three types of demonstration activities will be deployed to inform the development of a Safe Streets Action Plan and provide background data for future roadway safety improvements.  These activities include:

  • Temporary traffic circles at the intersections of Murray/Beverly and Murray/ Kensington;
  • Temporary curb extensions on Kensington Blvd. at Bartlett Ave. and Larkin St.; and,
  • A temporary speed table on Morris Blvd. south of Capitol Dr.

 The activities are expected to be installed for at least 4-6 weeks, but depending on their success, may be extended longer to continue to understand how they impact roadway conditions.  Designs for the proposed installations may be found on the project’s website: www.villageofshorewood.org/SafeStreetsForAll.  At the end of the project, the Village Engineer will publish a final report to document how the installations impacted roadway speed and safety, and identify any other lessons that were learned.  We invite you to share your thoughts on the installations by emailing the Village’s Planning Director, Bart Griepentrog at bgriepentrog@shorewoodwi.gov
